Hi! How are all of you doing? I hope you are all well and staying safe from the various fires. This is the last part of the essential eight. Nuts and seeds are packed with health promoting nutrients. The consumption of nuts and seeds has been associated with reduced risk of heart disease and diabetes, as well as an increased life span.
Nuts have high calorie density and are extremely filling. If you are trying to lose weight, limit nut and seed intake to about a handful a day. It’s healthiest to eat nuts raw.
Flaxseeds, chia seeds, hemp seeds, and walnuts contain high amounts of omega-3 fatty acids. There are many ways to add them to your meals. We put sunflower and pumpkin seeds in our salads as well as sprinkle hemp seeds on our salad.
On our oatmeal we put chopped walnuts. With chia seeds you can make chia jam or pudding. Ground flaxseed can be added to smoothies or used as a binder in pancakes.
There are many recipes for cashews in “ranch” dressing, “cream cheese”, “cheese”, and also “parmesan cheese”.
