Hi! How are you all doing? I hope you are all well. My son was visiting over the holidays and mentioned he went to Grocery Outlet where he was working and was able to get organic and plant-based foods there.
I decided to check out the Grocery Outlet near my home. They did have some organic produce but not a very big selection. I was able to find at the Grocery Outlet the soy milk we usually buy and it was over $2.00 less than what I usually pay. You do need to check expiration dates.
They also had some shredded plant-based cheese. I only get “cheese” once in a while. The brand name is Violife. I paid about $2.50 for it and when I went to Whole Foods the following week they had the same cheese for over $5.00.
As with any new food item you get, definitely read the food labels. Even if a product says vegan or plant-based I still look at the ingredients. Grocery Outlet also had the ketchup we usually buy. We don’t use it often but when we do the brand I use is organic and does not have any added sugars. It came as a 3 pack and I saved over a dollar a bottle.
I don’t shop at Grocery Outlet weekly but every once in a while when I am in the area I will check it out to see what they have.
Do you have a favorite grocery store you go to that can help save you money?
Last weekend my husband and I watched the documentary Fed Up which was produced in 2014. The film focuses on the causes of obesity in the U.S. The film presents evidence showing that the large quantities of sugar in processed foods are an overlooked root of the problem and the money lobbying power of “Big Sugar” in blocking attempts to enact policies and address the issue. It was sad to see the morbidly obese children in the film and the lack of education they and their parents do not receive from their doctors on healthy eating, especially a plant-based diet. Even if they do try and eat healthier their efforts are thwarted by the foods that are being offered in the schools.
